I gave birth 11 weeks ago and had pretty mild tearing that resulted in internal stitching, coming up to the opening of my vagina. At 6 weeks I tried to have sex but my vaginal opening was way way tighter than before and it was very painful. I couldn’t get even the tip in. Next couple times it was the same. The fourth time we tried we managed to make it work but the opening is still significantly tighter than I was before and sex is painful, even after I’m completely “ready”. We use lots of lube always too. My boyfriend agrees that it feels different than before

If this continues, please see your OBGYN to double check that scar tissue didn’t grow! This happened to me with my first birth and it never got better. Sex was so painful and tight. Turns out I had to have a small, in-office procedure at my OBGYN’s office to remove the scar tissue and everything was instantly back to normal.

Sounds like scar tissue that needs to be worked out. The husband stitch is an intentional extra stitch for the purpose of making the vagina “tighter.” it’s most common in patriarchal societies and is done unnecessarily. If you tear a piece of cloth and try to line it up and repair it, it’s not going to be exactly the same. I had a second degree tear and used pelvic floor therapy to help work out the scar tissue. After like 6 weeks of PFT, sex was totally back to normal and honestly better than it was pre pregnancy.

I had the same issue and definitely did not have a “husband stitch”. I went to pelvic floor physical therapy and using dilators helped a lot. Now at a year postpartum sex is way better than it was before. Although some positions are uncomfortable.

Are you doing pelvic floor therapy? I’m in the same boat, and my OB said it’s likely due to weakened muscles and encouraged me to do PFP.

I had a small tear & three stitches for the firstbaby and things were uncomfortable but i don't think I was given a husband stitch. I dont think sex was comfortable for me for like 4-5 months. But then I was fine. Scar tissue can be sensitive and fibrous. 2nd baby i had no tears and fine right away.

I agree with pelvic floor therapy. I’ve always had pain during sex 19-30 years old. I did pt after my first due to an issues and then did pelvic floor therapy after my second and the dr I had was AMAZING she taught me so many things and this last year I have RARELY had pain during sex which was not the normal for me. I wish I had done it sooner.

I had a c section and from all the stuff inserted in me and just the long  time between waiting my sex was super painful which I was so shocked since I didn’t deliver that way I did labor a while and push for some time but not enough for tearing. It took a lot of tries to finally stop hurting.

I had an issue the first time, but two of my stitches were taking extra long to dissolve. Maybe you just need to give it a little rest. Or make sure you’re warmed up and stretched sufficiently before going at it.

Not likely. It gets better. I did not do pelvic floor therapy, and it still got better over time.
