Would you give hired help (babysitters and cleaning service) a second chance if they cancel the first appointment?
I really need some help so I’ve been looking for a cleaning person and a part time babysitter. I had 3 separate appointments scheduled with cleaning people or services and every one canceled within an hour of the scheduled appointment time. We found some by referral and some online. Is there some kind of scam where they accept a job but then cancel so they can stay on unemployment? The reasons were that 1 one the cleaners in the group was sick, the other cleaners just got too busy to come to my house at the time we agreed on, two times in a row.
Then we found a babysitter who looks great and has lots of local references, we planned for her to come today for a trial/interview (paid) and she cancelled 20 mins before the time she was supposed to be here. She lives 20 minutes away so she just waited until I sent her my address and I guess reminded her of the appointment and then told me she can’t come.
The common denominator is clearly me but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong?? The cleaners didn’t see my house so they aren’t cancelling bc it’s too messy, it actually is pretty clean. The appointments are scheduled based on their suggestion of a day/time and I always confirm the day before and the day of.
I keep getting so excited to have help and plan my day around it and the constant cancellations are driving me crazy. I don’t really want to give these people a second chance if they cancel the first appointment because I need someone reliable. I have a small business and I’d move heaven and earth before cancelling last minute on a first time appointment with a new client. But is that too strict?
