Can I use a pack and play in place of a crib?

Arnt newborns supposed to have a firmer mattress? For safety reasons? I am using the pack and play for bedtime next to our bed.
You're not supposed to put blankets or anything in with them due to suffocation hazards.

Mines came with a bassinet attachment. I used that for a while. Then they co- slept until about 3 years then off to their own bed.

I use a pack and play for the first three months then I move my babies into their own room with a crib. I don't buy anything special for the pack and play. None of my daughters ever had troubles sleeping in the pack and play and then moving into their crib. Same thing will be done for this next baby.

They have bassinets in them and the mattress can raise. You can buy softer mattresses and sheets just like for a crib :)

I would replace the hard mat with a softer  mattress thing so it's comfy.

You can buy a softer mattress for pack n plays that you can buy, I only used mine for naps (I co-slept until we were ready for the crib), so I just got a bunch of soft blankets and stacked them up and put a fitted sheet over them
