Airbnb issue - What to do?

Misha

Been renting an airbnb for over a year now in a small 1bd place. Theres an a/c unit in the bedroom and one in the living room. The a/c in the living room broke down a week ago (last Wednesday). I informed the co-host onsite and they got it inspected and placed an order for a replacement.

4 days later (Saturday) I messaged the host through the app asking for an update because it was getting hot in the living room/kitchen area. Since the day the a/c broke, we had a floor fan by the bedroom door trying to push the cold air from the bedroom to the living room, but after 4 days, it wasn’t working well and the bedroom was struggling to stay cool, so we closed the bedroom door to maintain at least one cool room. This made the living room/kitchen area not usable.

The next morning, Sunday, I received an update saying they should expect the replacement to arrive Wednesday (today). They brought us 2 more fans and we tried to use them but it only pushed around hot air, so we kept the bedroom door closed.

The temperature in the living room got to 96 degrees. I took a picture of the thermostat and sent it to the host stating that the fans are no longer working and only blowing hot air around.

That evening (Sunday), the cleaning lady made a fuss to the hosts about our a/c being down and for how long it’s been down while it has been 117 degrees outside the past week. She got their permission to let us into the unit next door to us to use. (Someone rented it over the weekend and it wasn’t available until Sunday afternoon).

Thankful to have a kitchen to use and a living room to sit in during the day and evenings, we’ve kept our use minimal and would sleep in our main rental since the a/c works well in there.

I expected to hear something today, but never got an update from the hosts. Instead, the cleaning lady came by this evening to ask if it had been fixed because she’s supposed to clean the other unit tomorrow for weekend renters. When she found out it hadn’t came in yet, she got upset. I think mainly because nobody else is acting like it’s a concern except for the cleaning lady.

I’m thankful for her pushing to get answers and solutions for us. Every time I message, I feel like I’m being a bother even though I know we have the right to address this.

I don’t have any particular expectations, but I thought it would have been more important since it’s been 115+ degrees the past week.

Now I’m feeling concerned that we are in the way of the other unit that is rented out for the weekend and not sure what the host plans to do with that. Meanwhile, my boyfriend is saying they better not kick us out just for weekend renters and if they do, he expects a discount for next month’s rental pay.

Is that even acceptable? I hate stepping on toes. The hosts have always been great and attentive whenever something is needed. I feel like I should be getting updates instead of sitting around waiting. Even if there’s nothing to update, I would have expected to hear that nothing arrived today and that they’re still trying.

I’m not really sure what to think or do because I’m not sure what’s acceptable. Thoughts and opinions please?
