What would you do?

Question

I been dating my boyfriend for almost two years. Naturally, the question about marriage will come up. In our latest conversation he told me that he is simply not ready and marriage is not on his priority list therefore he cannot give me a time line.

For me, it would depend on several factors, but primarily how old I am, and how long I’m willing to wait for my significant other to “be ready” for marriage. Once you’ve figured that out for yourself, then I would sit them down and say “this is my expectation. I won’t wait around my entire life waiting for you to be ready for something that’s important to me. If you’re not ready by the time we’ve been together for x amount of time - or we’re x years old - then this relationship will be over.” It’s straight forward, and gives a timeline of willingness to be patient with your SO but keeps you from wasting too much of your time if marriage is the end goal for you.

I did not date to just date. I dated to marry so for me that was a deal breaker. Some people will never want to get married. You need to have a very open and transparent conversation. When i got with my husband i told him on our second date that i was looking to get married. He was as well. We were married by 2 years 3 months.

Before i dated my husband.. i had the same issue.. when this happens.. when we move in together.. when we have a kid.. erm no.. i was very clear that i wasn't going to have kids til i was married.. and from the get go with my husband.. we argeed on everything early on.. there is men out there that want the same as u.

It doesnt matter what we would do. You seem to want to get married and he has told you that he does not any time soon, if at all. If a piece of paper and a ring is what you need to define your commitment to each other, then leave and find someone who wants the same things in life that you do. If not then just be happy and enjoy your time with your partner.
