Never using misoprostol again

This has been awful. I took my first dose of misoprostol last Friday (10 days ago). It was incredibly painful and awful, but seemed to do what it was supposed to do. Took the second dose 24 hours later and NOTHING happened. No passing of clots, no cramping. I assumed the first dose had just gotten everything. Fast forward to around a week later (6 days later) and I start cramping again and bleeding heavily. I think I might have overexerted myself so I take it easy the next couple of days. Then yesterday, I start cramping HARD in the car on the way back from looking at a house. We were supposed to meet my parents for lunch and it was an important lunch, so I decided to go. During lunch, the cramping is getting worse and worse. Every time I stand up to use the restroom, I just feel blood pouring out. About an hour into lunch I start seeing white spots during cramping and the pain is getting unbearable. I decide to go to the ER. While I am there the pain is the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. I get an ultrasound and they find NO FETAL tissue in the uterus. Wtf. They give me some killer pain meds (which was the best part) and suddenly I stop bleeding. So somehow they hypothesize that I actually completed the miscarriage either on the way to the hospital or while there. It was wild.

All of this to say I am NEVER doing this again. This was my first miscarriage. If for some reason I have another, I’m going with a d&c.

Miscarriage is so damn cruel. It’s violent and awful and every pain is a reminder of the sadness that brought you there in the first place. I’m hoping it is now finally over so I can try again and hope to mourn appropriately and put this behind me to move forward.
