What is the right thing to do?

If you were working at a restaurant and there's a table with a mom, dad, and kid. The kid(maybe between 12 and 14) slips you a note that says "I need help" what do you do. I chose to do the first option and some people I know think that's bad because instead of possibly breaking up a family maybe talk to the parents. What do you think?

Speaking to the parents guarantees the child wont get help. And that they will likely be punished. You call 911 immediately. CPS cant do anything in that situation.

You never speak to the parents. Who fucking even knows if they ARE the parents. If they are the parents, they could be very shitty parents. Deff best to call police/cps.

I’d call the cops. It could be anything. They could be abused, kidnapped, etc. you never know. when a kid put themself at risk to ask for help, you help them.

Police every time. Talking to the parents could make it worse for the child. We don’t know why the child slipped that kind of note. It could be that they didn’t get their own way (and we all know kids can be dramatic) or they are being abused or are in danger. It isn’t up to us to investigate. Definitely the right call to make is to the cops and let them do their job.
