We just had her portrait taken at 6 months (at JC Penny). 5k on a 1yo’s party? The kid will not care. I’d put $4,500 of that in their college fund and spend the rest on a nice dinner out with family/friends.

6 month birthdays are popular with December kids so their day isn’t overshadowed by the holidays. Pinterest has great 1st birthday ideas. With a 5K budget, the sky is the limit.

$5k is also not much when you take into account travel, pictures, clothes, food, activities, decorations, etc.

I rented the swimming pool where.we did baby swim for my daughter's first birthday. It was a small, cheap pool in the sticks with a lawn outside to sit and have the food but if you did it at a hotel pool that might cost.a bit more. It was Nice because she's a july baby and swimming was an activity that everyone could take part in--even her tinyiest friends.

I’m about to. I combined my son’s christening and 1st bday invited everyone and spent way too much money it was a waste. Now I’m going to have my daughters christening/bday since she’s a January baby and all family lives out of town. Everyone’s going to bring something, we’re grilling and calling it a day. I’m going to get water balloons for the kids, we have a swing set & I’ll probably do a slip and slide for all the toddlers/big kids. I put so much money and effort in the first time around and regretted it

The experience was fine. We had a lot of people there so we spent a lot of money on renting tables bounce houses cotton candy machines, and the experience would’ve been just as good if not better had we not invited so many people just kept it family and focused more on enjoying everything rather than going insane with decorations and extras. I felt like a cruise director and we could’ve put that money towards a little family trip or something.

That wasn’t a bad idea though! Why did you think the money was a waste? Was it a bad experience?

You can have the party at your home. You can order decorations from Amazon for cheap. You can get some at the Dollar Tree. Food doesn’t have to be expensive. You can do a cook out or pizza. You can get a special outfit for under $40 for their birthday. Pictures can be free- use a phone. Phone pictures can actually be better than professional pictures. We spent $500 for our son’s first birthday since he was still a baby. That included the food and decorations. We did our own pictures. We did a cookout. We didn’t have a cake because he wasn’t allowed cake until he was 2. He’s 8 now and we spend about $1,500-2,000 on his birthday. He’s heavy into art, books, and STEM toys. We have the party at our home. We make the meal of his choice. Usually he wants a taco bar or a pasta bar. We get our decorations from Dollar Tree and Amazon.

Okay I think I’ll try this but maybe just cater the food instead since we like to accommodate our guests individual needs and preferences

Girl if you want to blow 5k on a 1 year olds birthday be my guest, but assuming people who think that's dumb are poorer than you is such a stuck up bratty take. For all you know they make way more than you and just think 5k on a birthday party that their kid won't even remember is stupid.

Also since you belief your child is so much more "different" than everyone else, please homeschool because you are gonna be that parent that all the teachers hate

5K for a party is fucking wild. Also, no need to celebrate 6M bday.

Girl 5k for a party is wild to YOU because you’re in a different tax bracket! Which is ok for you.. There’s no need for YOU to celebrate a 6m bday. Again, my child is different. Pleeeaseeee do what YOU can afford! I didn’t ask for the negative comment Ms.Nancy ❤️
