I’m terrible for getting rid of my cats??
Not sure where else to post this, and just wanted some advice.
My husband and I have decided to get rid of our two cats and our friends and family are literally losing their minds.
We came to this decision for several reasons. The first being, our 8 months old is allergic. She hasn’t had an allergy test yet, but when they’ve been around her too much her nose gets stuffy and her entire face turns splotchy and then she rubs at her face for HOURS.
After seeing how she reacts to them, we decided to keep them in the basement. We’ve done everything we can to make them comfortable, they have a queen sized bed, 2 cat trees and 2 cat beds to lay on. 2 fans, an automatic feeder and a water fountain. Lots of toys; and there’s 3 windows they can still look outside. My oldest and I go down everyday to love on them.
They’ve recently decided to start pissing EVERYWHERE and it’s making the entire house, upstairs included, smell so bad. Their litter boxes have always been down there so there’s no reason they wouldn’t know where to go. My 5 year old today was complaining of her throat burning, and I KNOW it’s has to be the cat piss.
I love my cats but I love my kids more. And my family is giving us so much grief. They have been generally pretty good cats since we got them 3.5 years ago, but I just cannot handle the extra burden of cleaning piss multiple times a day anymore. I have PPD and PPA and I’m having a hard time mentally already.
Am I a shitty person? Like I kinda feel like it but then I feel like a shitty parent if I make my kids live in a disgusting cat piss house.
