My ex and I broke up due to issues from his past that affected our relationship. We talked about getting back together, but I told him we both need time to work on ourselves first. Yesterday, he said he feels like I’m “better than him” and further along in life, and he’s confused why I’d want to try again, thinking he doesn’t deserve me. I reassured him that I’m not better, just made different choices, and that he can make progress too with the right steps. He wants to work on himself but doesn’t want to rush. I told him I’m willing to wait, but now I’m second-guessing that decision because I’ve heard you shouldn’t tell a man you’ll wait for him or he’ll take you for granted. He has reassured me he wants to be with me, and this is the first relationship where I truly want to get back together after a breakup. My concern isn’t so much about what he’ll do, but whether he’ll still respect me. Am I overthinking this?
