Mirena IUD removal
Unfortunately the Mirena IUD isn’t working out for me and I’ve been prescribed the combined pill instead. Only problem is, I can’t afford the appointment costs for the removal. I’ve read online from a few resources that removing it yourself is an option. I’m a student nurse & midwife and I know realistically my safest option would be to save up for the appointment, but I’ve been bleeding for 9 weeks and I’m so worn out that I’m not comfortable waiting much longer. My specialist said she’s happy for me to get it removed whenever I’d like to by any provider, but I don’t see her for another 3 1/2 months (where it could’ve been done for free).
I have confidence that I’d successfully be able to perform the removal myself, but I was under anaesthesia during the insertion (and suffered horribly during recovery as they’d pierced my cervix & lower uterus on their first attempt to insert it), so I’m not sure what to expect it to feel like during removal.
Is anyone comfortable sharing what their removal experience was like? Just so I have some understanding. Go into as much or as little detail as you’d be comfortable sharing, any bit of information helps. Thank you in advance
