Can someone tell me if this is normal?

To preface this, I’m 29 years old. I’ve been on birth control for well over 8+ years now. Whenever my period rolls around, the time frame is consistent. However, sometimes I bleed (normally 1-2 days) and sometimes I don’t. This period, I haven’t bled at all… I had some browning in my discharge but that’s about it. My bf and I are in an LDR so I can’t be pregnant being that I haven’t seen him in the last few months. 
Does anyone know if this is normal? Or does bleeding less mean something like infertility (even on birth control). Is it bad to be on birth control long term?

Also birth control does NOT cause infertility and I would never endorse or encourage that birth control causes infertility as there are no studies linked to birth control and infertility to my knowledge. I’ve personally stopped taking birth control and just used condoms cause I’ve been on birth control since I was a kid so I wanted to see the difference on birth control and off. The big things I’ve really noticed is an increase sex drive, more energy, less moody, a little less stressed each day and just overall a positive experience for me but everyone’s completely different.

You don’t actually have a period on birth control. I liked to call it a chemical period, so in reality you haven’t had your period in 8+ years. It’s just a withdrawal bleed I think I read somewhere that the man who made birth control tried to mimic a woman’s natural cycle or something like that cause they were freaked out that we weren’t getting our periods. The withdrawal bleed is not necessary as your body isn’t actually having a period so unless you’re sure you’re not pregnant I wouldn’t worry!
