When did you give your baby a pacifier?

My boy is one week today and we could not get him to settle so we gave him a paci. I feel bad doing this. I know at the hospital the lactation consultant said it wouldn’t interfere with bf (I’m exclusively bf), but I’m worried about giving it too early.

We waited until about 4 weeks to try, but she never took to it.

My first we waited til 6 weeks because we were told the myth of nipple confusion. My second we gave it to him right away. Both nursed for 15 months with no issues.

It’s okay 👌. My daughter breastfed and she had one. She was also premature so the paci/dummy actually helped her develop her sucking skills.
Don’t feel bad. In the newborn stage, we do what we can to survive. You’re not a bad mom for using one at all.

Both my kids were given one while in the hospital. They were both nicu babies. 
My first ended up hating the pacifier and preferred the boob only. 
My second loves his pacifier and didn’t nurse. But the not nursing was unrelated to the pacifier. It was from 4m in the nicu on a feeding tube plus being in severe pain.
