9/17 I went to my dr appointment for a f/u ultrasound regarding low amniotic fluid. Last Friday it was a 5.7, yesterday it was a 4. So I was already prepared by my doctor that I if it was still low I would be sent to the hospital to be induced. Thankfully the same Dr. who I saw Friday was already on call yesterday which put me at ease because I really appreciate her bedside manner. Anyway I stop at Chick-fil-A to grab a salad and then drive myself to the hospital bags packed and ready. There was a slight holding period so I sat in the labor and delivery ED from about 11:30am-1:00pm. Once I got to my room. The doctor and the nurse inserted the Foley Bulb (I was already 1.5cm). It wasn’t really as painful as I expected and the nurse and doctor were so impressed at how well I handled it. Once that was completed I got hooked up to the Pitocin and the waiting process began.
I planed on using the pain management options because of how hard my previous labors with my sons were and since I was getting induced I wanted to try to keep things as controlled as possible. Once contractions started I used breathing techniques and my labor comb, I sat on the ball briefly until it was uncomfortable since I still had the bulb in and then eventually got back in the bed. Now time is honestly a blur still to me right now but if I remember correctly I had my first dose of fentanyl around 5:45pm. It made me nauseous so I threw up a few times but once I got past the initial onset I was able to somewhat relax. I had already made my nurse aware that I wanted a epidural so the orders were already in but it would take about an hour from my request for the anesthesiologist to come in. So around 7:45p after shift change I got my next round. But let me tell you all I had the BEST nurse! She was the sweetest person and practically stayed with me the whole time. She was very through in explaining her game plan for each step of the way. She wanted to make sure I had enough fluid in my system before I got the epidural since my BP naturally runs low and I kept getting sick when I would lay down.
My only fear was the epidural which isn’t necessarily painful but very uncomfortable and with my youngest son the Dr. didn’t get it in right and had to poke me twice and even then I needed a bolus before delivery which left me completely numb 12hrs after delivery. And low and behold it was the same damn Dr lol and he missed again except he did it and then they had to call him back to redo it because all the interventions didn’t work but once he got it in and it started to kick in I was good. The only bad thing was I was super jittery and uncomfortable because the hospital bed was hard af so that made me super uncomfortable.
Anyway once I was good the doc took the bulb out at I was at 5.5cm. They broke my waters and then made me lay in a few different positions with the peanut ball to help her engage. By about 3:45am the nurse checked and she said it was time to have a baby! So we started the practice round on pushing to get her lower and make sure I was truly ready before the doctor came. One technique I loved which I will recommend you ladies try with your nurse is “tug of war”. She took a sheet, tied a knot on both sides and then she stood at the end of the bed a few steps away and pulled back and then I pulled back which helped me bear down and use the right muscles perfectly. At that point her and my sister could see her hair and she called the doctor in. By the time the doctor got in and gowned up I asked if I could go ahead and push and In 3 ten second pushes baby girl slid right out! The baby nurse wasn’t even ready setting up yet lol since she came out so fast she was purple but baby girl is beautiful and healthy and eventually her color came in. I had zero tears and I didn’t poop lol. I’m honestly not even sore. I’ve only used the peri bottle like 3x.
Even through this pregnancy whooped my ass this was the easiest delivery by far! And I was surprised since I was getting induced but it helped being able to manage the pain. My October 4th baby became a September 18th baby, just 8 days before her big brother’s birthday. Anyway, thank you for reading.
