Do people not know what words mean?

Sorry but it is my PET PEEVE when I see people online posting about something someone said and people commenting sue them for defamation.... When what they are saying is a true thing. For people who do not know and I've worked in law, defamation, slander, libel, etc is when someone ruins your reputation by LIES! Also opinions are not defamation. If someone makes a bunch of post saying you are a slut who works at a strip club, I think that's super shitty but if you actually work at a strip club then it's not defamation and while I don't like the word slut. That is an opinion. None of that is defamation. There just seems to be a bunch of people online telling people they can sue and not actually knowing what these things mean. It's also not even illegal for someone to lie on you. It's only a case if you can prove damages. Defamation is hard to win even if it's truly defamation because you have to prove damages. You have to prove someone lied, that it was with malicious intent, and that it is the reason it lost you money. That's why it's so hard to win because damages are almost impossible to measure and it's hard to prove that specific lie is the reason you lost money. If someone is harassing you, you can try to press charges for that but please stop giving people shitty legal advice. Thank you

Edit: I didn't give opinions. I stated FACTS! It annoys me when people throw around "sue for this. Sue for that. This is defamation." Because there are slimy lawyers who just want your money who will take a case they know they won't win. Learn the difference between opinions and facts
