My friend was recently physically assaulted by her boyfriend of 10 years. They were both drinking, and he started to strangle her and covered her nose and mouth with his hand infront of their kids. He decided to drive the kids up to his moms after wards, where a neighbor reported him driving off late at night like a psycho and he was later arrested and spent the night in jail. The children are still with the grandmother, he was released and is staying at his moms with his children after all this. My friend was told by the police that the kids are supposed to be going to school, but the grandmother is refusing to send them so their mom can't go to the school and pick them up. We're both certain that they are speaking to lawyers and are going to try and get full custody now that they know that the relationship is over. Is there anything I can recommend her doing other than contacting a laywer? The school reached out asking why the boys having been to school and she doesn't know what to say or who to talk to at the school. Edit: He's currently being charged with 2 counts of assault, mischief, and making threats. So he will be going to court for that. They co own a house. The police were made aware and let the kids stay at the grandmothers because they are deemed safe with her, which makes no sense considering he is there, which they know. She told the school what was going on. His alcohol lever was just below the limit so he wasn't charged with a DUI.
