Is my boyfriend teaching kids to be spoiled?

My boyfriend and I were with my dad. Our Walmart has Angle Tree kids. My dad was complaining about how kids are so spoiled and how ridiculous it is for kids to ask for things like an Xbox for Christmas. My boyfriend took the angel off the tree and said he what the hell. My dad asked was he actually about to get that kid a damn Xbox and my boyfriend said "Why not. I can afford It " and he bought an Xbox. My dad was complaining that he's teaching kids they can use angel tree to get free stuff. Part of me agrees with my dad. I got angel tree as a kid and my mom would have never let me use it to ask for expensive stuff like that. My boyfriend things there's nothing wrong with giving a kid one thing they really want. Even if it's expensive. He can afford it so why not. Although my boyfriend is a teacher. He doesn't make much money. He makes like 40k a year so can he really? I guess not my business.
@Melissa Angel Tree is how people in a low income house can get their kids presents. You sign them up for Angel Tree. Our Walmart has a Christmas tree filled with different kids and you pick one and get them a gift. It has their wants and needs.

Your father is 100% WRONG. The angel tree is for low income children to ask for gifts and be able to have a Christmas. It’s not trying to get free things and it’s certainly not being spoiled. These children do not know how much things cost. They are just writing down what they would like. Your boyfriend can purchase whatever he wants with HIS money. His money isn’t your concern. I do the Angel tree for 5 kids a year. Helping to provide children with good Christmas because their parents cannot is NOT spoiling them.

Honestly it’s none of your dads business what your boyfriend does with his money. Buying something expensive for someone doesn’t mean they are making them spoiled . By the sounds of it he did a great thing!

I would love to be able to provide a great gift for a child who otherwise may not be able to get that gift. Those donations are not for people to get free stuff. They are for kids whose parents can't give them the holiday gifts. It feels good to make a kid happy for the holidays. ￼Your dad should probably just mind his own business. Most kids getting angel tree probably have no idea. They are writing down their Christmas wishes like every other child, rich or poor. Its not until years later that you realize where the Christmas magic came from

I bet that child is the only one out of his friend group who doesn’t have an Xbox to play on. I think he did a good deed, not spoiling to me. I truly don’t think children should have to suffer the financial situation their parents are experiencing

I’m so confused about the angel tree thing, but besides that, you dad gets no fucking say so. And we got all three of our kids an Xbox the one year because we were able to. And they are certainly not spoiled. You can get kids expensive shit and teach them how not to be spoiled. But sadly for your dad, that takes actual work and not just never getting kids nice things.
