Not brushing my toddlers hair

My child is 16 months I have pin straight hair and she has very curly hair. Every time I brush her hair it frizz , so is it better not to brush it ? Obviously I’m gonna brush it at night and stuff so she doesn’t get a rat nest, i just have no clue how to handle curly hair. Thanks for replying Edit: I have looked on google but it says so many different things.
