Had to put our dog down

So today… on Christmas eve we had to have our 14 year old beagle down.

The heartache is unreal.

Especially for our 5 year old and our other elder dog. Being an adult and making adult decisions SUCKS sometimes. We have plans to travel on Christmas Day to two different state and be gone a total of 4 days. Here’s my issue, do we take our other dog on the trip with us or leave him here to grieve? We have someone planned to come over to let him out and feed him and all. I just feel like maybe I should take him with us now that he will be alone. I was researching about helping dogs grieve and one of the top things said to give them space and time to grieve and not rush them into new busy activities. What would you do? He currently won’t leave our other dogs bed (the one who was put to sleep)
