Am i thinking clearly?

I need advice. My husband and I are splitting. We have 3 kids and currently reside in an apartment (the lease is up in June). I found a house I could rent today in the town that we live in. I owe my job 3 months of work for the maternity leave that I'm taking. I adore my job and my coworkers but I want to eventually move back to my hometown around my family (they are 3 hours away). This house i found today is ADORABLE and is only $900 a month for a 2b2b with an attached garage and yard for the kids. They typically do a 1 year lease but I spoke with the owner who was VERY kind and she said I could do a 6 month lease. Is it reasonable of me to move into this house I found and have my husband stay at the apartment to finish out the remainder of that lease? Then he can move wherever. I just don't think I could stay at the apartment until June with him.

Consult your lawyer & make sure you won’t be responsible for any of the bills at the apartment if you move out. Ask your husband if he’s okay with you moving out & him taking over the lease

Follow Kim’s advice! And also consider your mental state. Moving out sounds like it would support you being able to think more clearly - which in turn might help you make better financial decisions so that you can move when the time comes. Depending on where you live, look at the community resources available to you. There may be cash/rent assistance, childcare, or counseling services that could really help you get through this big transition. Joining a support group at the very least would be helpful, no matter what you end up doing. I think of these self-support activities like putting your kids into car seats and buckling your own seatbelt before driving- you can drive without these things but if an accident happens, the results are going to be very different. 2 bed 2 bath for you and 3 kids? I agree $900 is dirt cheap for that, but is it really enough space for all 4 of you? If you’ll be getting majority custody, you should stay in the apartment and your husband should move out. I’m also seconding the comment that suggests talking to your lawyer.

No. You’re not thinking clearly. You’re making a decision based on temporary emotion. One that will ultimately make a bigger mess for you, definitely financially but also potentially physically. Plus are you putting 3 kids in 1 room together? Are they the same gender and age? Unless there’s abuse, there’s zero reason to blow things up in a hurry.
