Getting back with an ex

could use some encouragement right now. My ex and I were together for almost two years, and I truly believed he was the one. A few months ago, he decided to move back to his hometown, four hours away from me, because he was struggling with his mental health and wasn’t happy with his job. He missed his family and wanted to be closer to his aging parents.

Eventually, he made the difficult decision to break up with me, even though he always told me he couldn’t imagine life without me. He said he needed time to focus on himself, his family, and figuring out what he wants in life. He asked for space, and while I’ve been trying to respect that, it’s been so hard because I still love him deeply and can’t stop believing that we’re meant to be together.

To try to cope, I made the decision to move out of state and start fresh. But it’s been a struggle. I hold onto hope because he said we don’t need to get off the phone bill, he hasn’t removed me from his social media, and he mentioned there’s a possibility of us starting as friends and maybe trying again in the future. Right now, though, he doesn’t want a relationship, and I’m trying to give him the space he needs, even though it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

We’re both 23, which I know is still young, but I can’t shake the feeling that he’s my person. Every day feels like a challenge, and I’m looking for encouragement from anyone who’s been in a similar situation. Do exes really get back together after time apart? How do you hold onto hope while respecting their need for space? I’d love to hear your stories, advice, or anything uplifting.
