Is this public knowledge?

Are you able to look up the amount someone owes on their personal property taxes?

Ours was due at the end of the year, but you can somehow search anyone’s name that lives in our county and see what they owe. My parents have been hounding my husband and I to pay ours when it’s none of their business. How is this legal to be public knowledge and be able to search anyone’s name to find out what they owe and if they’ve paid?
