My birth story…

Hi there. Let me start by saying this is my first child/pregnancy. I was due Wednesday February 19th/2025 and had her exactly on my due date. I had an appointment with my midwife Tuesday February 18th and she gave me two options. #1 wait to get induced where the hospital will set a date or #2 wait till 41 weeks with a another ultrasound and get induced then. I picked option One because I didn’t want anymore ultrasounds. Fast forward to Wednesday morning on the 19th I woke up at 12:30 am with intense contractions. I noticed they were getting stronger and stronger running between 2-7 minutes apart. I called my midwife at 2 am and she stayed on the phone with me for about 38-40 minutes to time my contractions. She recommended a hot shower and some Tylenol but the contractions were too intense. she then told me to go to the hospital to get checked. I have a car but I decided to take an Uber. I packed my hospital bag, my car seat & made my way over there. While in the Uber I can feel fluids coming out from down below.

Upon arrival I gave the registration nurse my forms and she immediately got me into a room. While I was on the bed my mucus plug fell right out and from there the contractions were brutal. With every contraction I felt like I had to push. I was begging for a epidural but they said they can’t give me one until I get some bloodwork done which will take about an hour. They checked my cervix and I was 2-3 cm dilated (this was around 4:30am) They then moved me to the delivery room. I kept telling them I needed to push. I was literally begging for a epidural and by 6:00 am I was already 7 cm dilated! One of the nurses said I probably won’t be able to get one but the anesthesiologist did end up coming in about 20 minutes later and I was finally able to get one. By 8:00am I was pretty much fully dilated. I was about 9-9 & a half cm at that point but my contractions slowed down. By 10am I started pushing but I was extremely tired. I was given Pitocin and my contractions picked right back up. They made me rest for a bit but I was pushing on and off between 10 am and 2 pm. Baby girls head was crowning but she kept going back in. By 1:30pm they had me pushing consistently and the obgyn recommended the vacuum. I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl at 1:56 pm. She came weighing in at 6 pounds 15 ounces…
