Late period

My period is 8 days late, I have been off of my birth control for seven months and my period has been regular so this is not normal for me. I am not having any symptoms of my period coming either. I tested two days ago midday after chugging water to take a test and it was negative. I had the slightest bit of spotting this morning and now nothing. I am trying not to get my hopes up but any advice would be helpful. Has anyone else had a similar situation and been pregnant?
