Morphine or epidural?

I had an awful experience with the epidural with my first child! He’s 5 going on 6 this year. 
Im 31 weeks right now with my second, due in June. I am so stuck on if I wanna get epidural again or try morphine. I had an episiotomy with my first child so I’m kinda glad I had the epidural. But this time around I’m torn and don’t know what to do… I’m scared of tearing to having be cut again.. I’m also just terrified in general to give birth again.  What was your experience with morphine?

Morphine during labor can cause babies breathing to drop. And be crossed into breastmilk also. I wouldn’t advise using it.

with my first i opted for nubain and then ended up getting the epidural. by the time i had my daughter i felt like i had been hit by a truck and swore i would never get the extra pain meds. fast forward to having my second child, i only got the epidural, the whole experience was much more pleasant, and i didn't feel drugged afterwards.

Two things I would consider.
1. Was the experience you had with the epidural likely to repeat? Like did you have a bad reaction to it, or was it something to do with how they placed it?  
2. Going med free.

They gave me a shot of morphine and it did nothing. Then they gave me gas. I asked for the epidural but it was too late. I stuck with the gas and I’m glad I did. I had a third degree tear and had an episiotomy as well

Morphine does 0 to pain. I had it 3 times. So don’t take it. 
Epidural only work for me half my body. But that was major relief. The gas was also helpful.

I got fentanyl at the start of my induction when having my foley balloon placed and it was a hard hitter. I felt amazing, definitely didn’t feel anything but I also felt like I was on a different planet. It also lasted like 15 mins so probably would not have been efffective during labor. It also made me feel like I had had just the right amount of alcohol and was having a good time. I was pretty loopy. I had an epidural for delivery. I tore (2nd degree) and even with the epidural they just gave me some local anesthetic for the stitches. Usually for tears they’ll do some general anesthetic just to make sure it’s really numbed.

I had an episiotomy with no epidural and you can’t feel the cut because they numb that specific area. If she hadn’t of told me what she was doing I wouldn’t have noticed.

I only have experience w epidural and never heard of morphine as an option. But I had a 4th degree tear and 2.5 hrs of harsh pushing with my first, but my 2nd was way easier, just 45 mins and a teeny tiny tear I didnt even feel. So hopefully your 2nd will be easier anyway.

You can ask about gas and air as well, but you can’t have it while you push. That’s the only down side.
