How do you leave a long term relationship?

I know you just leave but how do you actually stand on your ground and put yourself first without feeling bad? Especially when they’re crying their heart out saying they will change and put in more effort and time and energy? I gave him an ultimatum whether I meet his parents or I go.

You can't do it without feeling bad. You just have to do it even though you feel bad. If he's already said, he will put an effort and time and energy and he still hasn't, then it's not going to change. It's all just manipulation. So why should you feel bad or guilty because he's crying to manipulate you? Leave even though you feel bad. ￼

The best way is to block him and go cold turkey. It’s hard and you might be tempted to respond when he reaches out but if you respond you likely will be convinced to be friends and then get back together. He needs you told block him so that he can grieve and move on too. But remember if he was that afraid of losing you he would take you seriously and not risk losing you.

Imagine yourself 5 years from now still dealing with this and now youve wasted 5 more years instead of having that time to find the right person.  I just made a decision and also told him we can no longer talk, I wish him well and dont hate him but we need to move on....then I cut him off and blocked him. Because inevitably you will grieve and miss him or miss having someone for awhile, and talking will just confuse you when youre vulnerable. Yeah he will cry but he will get over it. You didnt elaborate on the issue youre having w him but if hes not treating you right or committing to you then hes crying over losing what you do for him and what he gets out of you, not actual love.

Breakups are hard, that’s just how it is. There’s no way around it. But that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done. Remind yourself that it hurts now, but realistically, you both will eventually move on. You need to end it and block him so both of you can move on. Doing anything else is just going to make you guys go in circles.
