It's a joke. It implies that you spend a ton of time and money preparing for the first, but the second time you've learned what they actually need and don't. Which isn't much. Not cot on a empty floor not much, but again it's an exaggeration joke.

It's not offensive. FTMs tend to go over the top and think that they need every single baby gear that is on the market. Second time moms already know what they will need and what they don't need.

I think with a lot of people it's the complete opposite. I've heard a lot of my family me ever and even my SO family members talk about how they barely had anything with their first child. A lot of times because they were young and just didn't have the finances to prepare how they wanted. But with the second child and much more experience being able to provide all of what the kid's needs and wants.

It's not offensive, but it's not true for me. We didn't over buy for either kid. We bought the bare necessities for both kids. No need to go over the top when they're going to grow out everything by tomorrow.
