My LO is 5 weeks old and we have been using a nipple shield since day one in the hospital. She nurses like a champ with it! I would really like to try and wean her off of it. I tried when she was around 2 weeks old, but it stressed both of us out so much that I decided to just continue using it. Now that she's 5 weeks old and we are both much more confident and comfortable with breast feeding in general, I'd like to give it another go. I have tried to get her to latch without several times. She will latch for maybe 10 seconds, but then spit it out. She won't latch again after that, and gets very frustrated. Does anyone have any good tips? I haven't yet been to see a lactation consultant, but I will if I can't wean her on my own.
