GBS anyone?

Question

Today I found out I tested positive for group b strep but my doctor informed me it's not a big deal that they will just treat with antibiotics during labor and delivery. Has anyone else tested positive and how are you handling it? I know they say to not worry but it's hard to not stress about something that could harm my baby and I have no idea how I got it you know?

I also want to say thank you to this group! I haven't actively been involved but when I am concerned or have questions I have used this app to help me through the things my husband won't understand! I wish you all luck and much love for your babies!

I've been positive with both pregnancies. It's not something you have to "handle". It is what it is, and that's it.

My aunt works at a major hospital in Texas downtown in labor and delivery for 15 years. When I had my first 14 years ago she said " let me be honest the GBS test basically is to see if you have a bacterial infection of some sort basically she said it means you're wiping wrong After a bowel movement or somehow traces get near your vagina but definitely not a big deal, just iv antibiotics. They do that cause our immune system is built up but baby's isn't therefore she doesn't get it coming out. I have never tested positive but I love have her for questions!!

I actually tested negative for my GBS culture with my first and ended up actually being a carrier after all and my son had it when he was born. Scary but 10 days of IV antibiotics in the NICU later and he was totally fine and healthy. They are automatically administering IV antibiotics this time around along with inducing labor. Stats are 1 in 200 will get it from their mother without antibiotics but only 1 in 4000 will with antibiotics. Everything will be perfectly fine!! 😊

I've tested positive for GBS with three out of four of my kids and they just do the antibiotics during labor and my kids have been fine. 👍🏼

Don't stress I had it with my first baby and I had antibiotics before delivery.  As long as you get antibiotics before or during delivery you and baby will be totally fine.

I tested positive as well my dr says some women are carriers of the bacteria so there's nothing to be done about it except the antibiotics. I know it makes me more anxious but I try not to let it get to me because is something I can't control.

6 years ago with my first, I tested positive for GBS. They gave me an antibiotic and everything was fine. There's no real way to contract it, it's just a bacteria that's in some women's bodies. My son was fine :) ill be tested again on the 14th for it for my second son, but my doctor informed me that just because I had it 6 years ago, doesn't mean I'll have it again. Don't worry :)

I am positive and my first baby got it at 2 weeks. It was scary and horrible and we were in the NICU for 10 days. But he is now one and completely fine. It is very rare for your baby to get it, just keep an extra eye on baby in the first few weeks.. If you notice anything strange, take the temperature, and call a pediatrician. But all should be fine. I'm having my second now and I'm not too worried.

My sister had it and they didn't test her until the day of labor. They just gave her antibiotics in her iv and that's it.
