How do you keep your newborn awake when breast feeding?

I am sure this has been asked, but I am new to this message board. Our son was born 6 days ago and latches on like a champ, but always falls asleep after about 5 minutes!

My friend is a lactation consultant and she  suggests tickling the baby on its feet, neck or ribs 😊

It may sound mean but I've had to wash my baby's face with a cool wet cloth to get them fully awake. (I always felt so bad for doing it!)😩

My little one also liked to sleeps while eating. I blow at her face and it will wake her up for a few minutes and then I repeat it over and over. I also play with her hair and ears. I also lay her on a pillow with just her head on it and feet hanging off so she's at about a 45 degree angle.

I would always tickle my sons feet, he is super ticklish!

Tickle the back of baby's neck or stroke from the temple to the cheek. These worked for me so I never had to take off my son's clothes.

I would change my baby's diaper in between sides or if he fell asleep and was no longer eating.

Strip them down and don't let them get too warm. That's what my lactation consultant told me to do.
