Blood transfusions

This is for ladies who are already moms. Did you need a blood transfusion during delivery? If so did u go with blood or opt for an alternative? Only asking because I'd like to know what other alternatives are available. No judgement whatsoever just curious. How common is it to need blood at that time?

Only when I miscarried at 17 weeks. I had to go by ambulance and needed 2 units of blood. But my friend needed 6 units and had a full hysterectomy to save her life. Very scary, she had the picture perfect pregnancy, labor, and delivery up until after baby came out. I don't think there are other options in cases like that.

Btw I've had 5 full term births with no need for blood. I do bleed a lot but not enough to be a danger.

You do not receive blood transfusions unless there is a complication that involves hemorrhage. You need to discuss the possibility of your needing one with your OBGYN. They'll also be able to tell you what alternatives are acceptable for you.

Do women only need them when they are anemic? Because I'm anemic and rh- and this just added to the list of shit to worry about. Sooo thanks😑😒

Cybilinside; it might just be my practices policy. Or they were just trying to scare me. Lol

I was anemic and I had an epidural.

I got four units because I had placenta acreta. We didn't know before hand and once I started hemorrhaging I lost consciousness too quickly to be given a choice, so it was up to my husband. It doesn't bother me either way, I needed blood, I got blood, I didn't die. This time I am banking blood ahead of time though just in case something goes wrong again, that way they can just use mine.

I know that my mom needed one when I was born, but I don't know anybody who needed a delivery-related transfusion recently.

Nope. 2 births and no transfusions

I had two transfusions following the birth of my first child. It was an emergency c-section and I lost a ton of blood.
