Anyone feeling neglected by their doc? No appt for me til 12 weeks

I don't even really know how far along I am. My new doc said no ultrasound til 18-20 wks! This is my first pregnancy and I just have so many questions. I see everyone with ultrasounds already and I just wanna yell at my doc like "Don't you care about me? What if it was ectopic? What if there's no heart beat? What if I was obese. What if I was high risk." They've never even met me... :(

Think of it this way though. Having an ultrasound in early trimester really means nothing.  You might see a healthy baby one day and something goes wrong the next. I know it sounds awful, but surely it's better to wait for the first trimester to be over so that you can look at your baby and let yourself get truly excited !!

Regarding questions that need asking. Call your doctor and explain you have some questions. I'm certain that they will either book you in or give you an EPU or midwife phone number to call and get all your questions off your chest!!

Try to remember that early ultrasounds often occur because something might be wrong. I had bleeding with my daughter so I had early ones (6w 7w 9w 13w) to keep any eye on her. Now I have a history of early miscarriages and my daughter was born small so I had one at 8w and have one scheduled for 10w. Though I totally get why you'd be jealous, and honestly I think they should at least check you once in the first trimester to date the pregnabcy and put your mind at ease.

That's totally normal. My on doesn't see patients until 10 weeks.

I had my first one at 8 weeks and we found out I'm pregnant with twins. I'm high risk now so I'm getting one every two weeks. If I were you I'd push for an early ultrasound.

It's normal for them to see you 8-12 weeks they only do ultrasound that early to date the pregnancy or if they can hear the heartbeat.

I am high risk and my OB saw me for the first time at 10 weeks and won't see me again until 15 weeks. I also won't have an ultrasound until 20 weeks because she was able to find a heartbeat by Doppler at 10 weeks. It's completely normal. Most women only get one ultrasound and many OB offices don't see you until the end of the first trimester because there's nothing to do before then except a CBC and std testing.

Also, if it was an ectopic pregnancy, you'd have bleeding and pain, and when you call to make your first appointment- they should tell you to call if you're bleeding or have pain.

I am not getting my first appointment until I am 13 weeks. Me and my doctor both have very busy schedules but I WILL be having an ultrasound at 10 weeks cuz I made an appointment at options 360. It's like a planned parenthood. I would see if planned parenthood does ultrasounds. I know it's hard not to worry❤️

Wow don't you guys do nuchal translucency? That's done 11-14 weeks to look for chromosomal abnormality risk. I thought that was standard. 20 weeks is anatomy scan and I can't imagine waiting that long for a first ultrasound. Maybe it's a U.S. thing? My first u/s was at 8 weeks, then there's a 10 week dating scan (which I missed), then the nuchal 11-14 weeks.

"Your first ultrasound will typically be done between 18 and 20 weeks, but you may have one before 12 weeks to confirm your due date. You may also have an earlier ultrasound -- or more than one -- if yours is a high-risk pregnancy, if you have any pain or bleeding, if you have a history of having children with birth defects, or if another prenatal test or exam shows something abnormal. In addition, you'll have additional ultrasounds if you have a chronic illness such as diabetes or a history of ovarian cysts or fibroids."

My OB wanted my first ultrasound done at 5 weeks because I have an erratically varying cycle for unexplained/undiagnosed reasons (periods 3-4 times a year), miscarried my first pregnancy, and will be 35 years old in March. 
Even waiting for a 5 week ultrasound was hard enough. I'm anxious to see my squishy again. I'm now 12w2d with rainbow baby.  Hope the time flies for you!! Happy pregnancy! 🌼
