Would this drive you nuts?
We had our first child this past August. He's also the first grandchild on my husband's side of the family. I don't really want to post his whole name on here for privacy sake so we'll say his name is "Jacob Michael". My in laws originally declared to us that they intend to call him "Michael". They apparently think grandparents should have their own special name for their grandchild. WTF? We of course protested because that's not his name so their compromise was to call him "Jake Michael". We don't mind if they call him "Jake" for short because we do too. But they always call him "Jake Michael" and it really irks me. To us, he's "Jake" or "Jacob". And on top of that, they're Chinese so we let them give him a Chinese name and they went through this bit ordeal to pick out the right name for him and they never even use it, just "Jake Michael". What on earth??? I think it's to the point that we might actually say something again. Are we overreacting? We feel so disrespected.
