Nursing..pumping..formula?

Question

Id like to know what other first time moms are doing as far as nursing or pumping or both but supplimenting with formula. Nursing has been too painful and pumping is working but its not enough to keep up. I dont want to give up on giving her breast milk. I just want to be able to pump enough to have a good supply built up. My baby is only a week old so will more milk coming down here soon? Id like to hear what others are doing

The more you pump and breastfeed, the better your milk will come in. You can also speak to a lactation consultant.

Don't give up on nursing or pumping. Your milk will come! As far as it being painful, it sounds like your baby isn't latching properly. Have you looked into a lactation specialist? They helped my bad latching and now it's not painful.

I started nursing my twins from day one. They're 3 weeks old now. I wasn't making much milk the first week. We supplanted with formula. Now I'm able to produce enough milk for both of my girls with little supplementing here and there. If I had a singleton I would be able to store at this point. I also pump after each feeding. That has helped a lot. Look into fenugreek supplements, ovaltean, lactation cookies and tea to up your supply.

My little girl has a terrible latch! She's only 9 days old and my right nipple is still pretty sore but I can't feel it on my left anymore! You'll wake up one day and boom! No more pain! It's wonderful. I only pump a little at night because I have an hour of school in the morning so the fiancé gets to feed her in the morning while I'm gone! Sometimes I feel like I'm not producing enough but then I realize baby passes out after eating and she's comfy and healthy. It's such a learning experience but this breastfeeding bond is simply the most amazing thing I've ever experienced💜

At first I was feeding, pumping, and formula supplementing in all one sitting. She's preemie so we are doing all three to keep her healthy. To be honest I did that routine for two weeks straight. I was in so much pain and so sore that it hurt to let her feed most the time. I have taken a break from pumping, even though I know the supply will change and that I need a build up for going back to work. It's what so work best for you, I would highly recommend breastfeeding and arty least pumping twice in 24hrs to supplement or just to have back up. Listen to your body. I didn't and still am trying to heal myself from going over board.

I pumped 8times a day in the first few months.  It's like a full time job.  Then I weaned to 7times, 6times, etc.  I had some stored but mostly had to use it all.  I finished st 9months.  It's tough but duable!

Only 3 weeks in but so far I BF on one side and pump the other. Then let him finish on the side I pumped. My breast were hurting so much that I had to give one a break as I had a big crack and was chapped. It seems to have helped a lot. They don't hurt as much. I also give a bottle of Breast milk before he goes to bed to top him off. It gets me an extra hour of sleep at night.... Sometimes. Hang in there!! It will be worth it.

I nursed for three weeks just wasn't for us lol I pumped until about 6 months but had to start supplementing w/ formula around 5 months because I couldn't keep up. Now my daughter is 61/2 months and on just formula. I think you just have to do what works best for you & your LO

I tried nursing but it was painful as well so now I am exclusively pumping. I pump just about every three hours. The older your child gets the more milk you will produce. My son is five weeks and each time I pump I get about five ounces all together. He eats anywhere from three to five ounces just depends. I freeze whatever extra I have. At one week each time I pumped I got about one ounce from each side, so maybe 2.5 ounces all together. Give it time and don't give up 🙂

I am exclusively nursing. It was excruciating for the first 6-8 weeks for me as my LO had a tongue tie and then took awhile to learn how to nurse properly after it was corrected. I stuck with it though and it's much better now and totally worth it.
