Epidural?

I'm only 14 weeks along, but I'm thinking..
I hear that epidurals permanently ruin your back. Is this true?

There are always risks because the needle goes into you back, but I didn't have any lasting issues, and haven't had anyone I know that has either.

I chose not to do the epidural, for a few reasons.

1- it supposedly could leave you with back damage if not done correctly, a family member of mine had this happen with her second born, she now has to wear a back brace and can't really lift anything. Not helpful with a newborn.

2- I have already had my sciatic nerve pinched and have spinal issues because of it, I was worried the epidural would react weird because of this so I didn't get it.

3- it can numb you to the pushing sensation so it can become harder for some to actually get your baby out in just a few pushes.

I went threw 32 hours of labor. I stayed home for 25 of those hours beings the contractions weren't terribly strong and id rather sit at home than at the hospital. 5 hours with pitocin to speed up my dilation. And I caved (wanted to do all natural) at my 30th hour and got 1mg (which is a 1/4th of a dose) of the pain med to my IV. I react adversely to pain meds and it knocked my ass out. Within the last two hours I went from 3cm to 8cm and the baby was on his way. Got him out in 2pushes. And after that nothing really hurt. And to be honest, the contractions hurt a hell of a lot more than pushing him out. He was 6lbs 15oz and his head was 31.1cm around.

I am choosing natural because I want to be in full control of my birth experience. Like someone else said it will numb you to your own bodies reactions and the odds of getting pitocin and other drugs, even a c section increase once you add drugs into the mix.

I had two epidurals... First one didn't work... But no after effects from it. I was up and walking very shortly after giving birth.

I have been through 30+ hours of painful labor all the way up into transition and had to have an emergency C-section where I got a spinal block anesthesia injection. I would rather go through the pain again than have another needle stuck in my spine. Mine worked fine, but I am terrified of the possible side effects and fornme it's not worth it the risk. I know a lot of women who got migraines from it and a lot who it just didn't really work for... So for me, no thanks. Also, I'm pretty sure it drugs the baby too and I don't like that.

I had an epidural, no back problems. Everyone is different though. One of my cousins was paralyzed for a week because of her epidural.

That's a lie lol unless they really screw up, you'll be fine. The reason some people get scared is because if they or you make one wrong move, you can be paralyzed from there down lol
