Here's our labor story:
Monday we went to the specialist at 8:20 for our nonstress test. Baby was kicking but heart rate wasn't going into her usual 130's. We were given a sonogram right after. Her measurements put her into the 1 percentile. We were supposed to get induced on the 24th but they made the choice right then that we needed to get induced now. We ran home, packed a hospital bag, and drove to the hospital. The hospital was so busy that day, many deliveries going on. We got there at around 11am but did not get our delivery room until around 3:30pm. At 6pm they inserted cervidil to get induction started. The plan was to remove it at 6am and start poticin by 8am & break my water as needed. Up until around midnight I was having contractions but couldn't feel them. At 2am contractions were noticeable. This is when labor officially started. By 3am they hit hard!!! All of a sudden I had felt a sharp pain, and then felt wetness. I knew my water had broke. I told the nurse that was working that shift, she told me it was just discharge. I knew it couldn't be. Contractions kept getting stronger and closer together, i felt most of them in my lower back. At 5am they were so intense they were causing babies heart rate to drop. At 6am they checked me and said I was dialated to only 3cm, but on the monitor it looked more like 4. Since the babies heart rate was unstable, the midwife made the call at 6:30am to get me an epidural in anticipation for an emergency c-section. At 7am I got the epidural. By 8:30am babies heart rate still wasn't great. They were about to send me in for a prepped c-section before it would become an emergency one, but quick checked my dialation and saw I was 10cm already!! That was fast! Went from 3cm to 10cm in less than 3 hours! The midwife noticed my water was broken and asked the other nurse when that happened. I told them i had informed the night shift nurse at 3am about it!!!! Anyways, It was time to push! Started pushing at 8:45am (had to stop at 9:05am to wait for NICU nurses to come for the delivery) When she was coming out they noticed the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. They tried to unwrap it but it snapped as I pushed her out. It was one of the thinnest cords they've seen. She was born at 9:10am Tuesday January 19th; weighing 4 pounds 3 ounces, 17.75 inches long. All her vitals looked good, just needed to be put on glucose for low sugar levels and later antibiotics for infection. After the birth, the midwife and nurse examined the placenta. The cord had grown on the side of it instead of in the middle. They said something else about the cord (i forgot how they explained it), but said if they would have broken my water I would have bled so it's good how everything worked out. I'm grateful that everything went as smooth as it did given the circumstances. And the hospital staff and midwives have all been great to us! ❤️ Paige is doing great! She doesn't cry much and is a little feisty. Can't wait until we can bring her home. And Ed has been amazing through all of it. Don't think I could have gone through labor and recovery without him. He's been really helpful and a great dad already! ❤️😘
