How many of you have or have had an IUD?

Question

I'm thinking about getting one and am just curious to hear about people's experiences with them. I've heard great things and I've also heard horror stories. I'm torn between thinking it's a marvelous idea and running for the hills scared.

I have the Mirena IUD. Personally I couldn't be happier. Putting it in didn't hurt at all. I think that is a very personally thing. I have some friends who also have the Mirena who said putting it in was painful so I think it really just depends on you for how it will feel. I haven't had a period since April of 2015 and I had it put in March of 2015. Absolutely no complaints. I recommend it to everyone. Not ever having a period and not having to deal with pills everyday is the best thing ever!

I have the copper IUD as well and I have to say I'm loving it! I do have heavier periods and small to mild cramps but my periods are very regular. Getting it inserted was a bit uncomfortable but nothing you can't handle. I bled for a few hours after and had cramping, I took ibuprofen and felt better. I had the Nexplanon before but I literally was always on my period, had bad acne and was always in a bad mood. I'm so happy I went with the Paragard!

I got the Skyla back in the first part of October, so I've had it close to 4 months. Getting it up in wasn't the funnest thing in the world, but I had taken the day off work already so I just lounged for the rest of the day. I was told people tend to bleed for up to 6 weeks after insertion, I bled for 4 hours. I had 2 or 3 light periods that were right on schedule and haven't had one this month at all (I'm not peegnant, I checked just to make sure). And I get very rare cramping. It's wonderful! I check for the strings once a month and have had no issues!

I had nexplanon for a year (the arm implant) and I bled for the entire year, gained 20 pounds and was always in a bad mood.

I was also on the pill for 3-4 years before that and just grew tired of taking it every single day. Now I don't take anything and I don't have to worry. It's amazing!

I have Skyla! I haven't had any problems other than pimples 😖 I had been on the pill for 6-7 years and switched to the IUD and apparently my skin doesn't agree with it. But it's the best decision I've made! It's stress free and my periods are gone.

I have the Skyla IUD and love it!! I was on the pill for 8 years before that and got tired of taking it every day and also the fear that I was going to miss a pill by accident or when I took antibiotics it wasn't as effective. With my IUD I don't have to think about anything for 3 years and know I am safe. My periods have been more regular but they seem to last a little longer. But I have only had my IUD for 6 months, so that could always change. I recommend the IUD to all of my friends!

I've had the mirena for a year now and I love it! I haven't had any real problems with it and I completely stopped my period back in September. Couldn't be happier!!

I've had the Paragard for eight years. For the first six months or so, heavier, longer periods, but they eased up. No problems since. The Dr numbed my cervix prior to insertion - didn't feel a thing.

I have the mirena and have been on it for over two years. I like it , the only thing is before I have gotten on any birth control I never had cramps and now I get them. I like it because my normal period is really heavy and 8 days long , it makes my period light and short. Hopeful mines will go off. Lol I had the implanon before ( the one that goes in your arm) and it made me bleed for forever. I bled the whole summer of 2014. Smh but over all I like it and my periods are regular.
