Would you feel comfortable using a family crib from the 1950's?

My SO has a family crib that has a lot of sentimental value to him and we plan on using it for our baby. He says it was built in 1950, and I was wondering if it's a good idea to still use it. It's solid oak.

Totally depends on what it's like set up-- if it's super sturdy and the rails and whatnot are reasonably spaced, then sure, but I'd wanna make sure it fit what the current guidelines are for these things, just to be safe!

No, the bars were usually further apart back then & were notorious for babies getting their heads stuck in the bars or legs  too

There are certain standards for cribs now... Bars have to be spaced closer together and rail can't move ect. I would look them up!

Hopefully there isn't any paint on it. Paint back then had lead traces and was a nasty little problem. Be careful.

It will be fine as long as it's sturdy. 
I would consider repainting it though.

Not sure if it's painted or not, but levels of lead were higher in paint back then as well.

Safety Standards say not before 1978 I believe.

It should be okay but I would just check the paint or maybe sand it and repaint it with paint you know is safe ☺️

My mother in law put my step daughter in a crib from the early 1900s in it, and it fell all to peices! I told my mother in law that she was too chunky for it, because it looked very fragile! She did it anyway and it immediately broke...like a gingerbread house. All the pieces just caved and fell onto the floor. My MIL was not happy!!!
