Both. I went to Old navy and tried on some clothes, figured out a good size. Bought a couple of things. Then went online and bought more since they had a bigger selection.

I only buy online if I already know the fit. That being said I tried on in a store 1ce and have just been buying online now for convenience. I'm about to move up a size so I may go back to try on. The selections in stores near me suck and I really prefer a specific fit

I would buy pants in the store, but shirts I have bought online. Pants are harder fit wise for me while shirts are easier and it isn't a big deal.

I would have to say in store only because I tried a few on today looking for pants and they all looked awful. Saggy in the bum. I baught a couple of bras and called it a day.
