Just starting birth control

Hey ladies, I just started on the pill for the first time on December 20th (first Sunday of my last period)... Usually I get my period every 3 weeks, but my mom warned me my period might be irregular since my body is getting used to the pill.

During my December period, it was about 7 days (normally 4), and I haven't had it yet. I've had light cramping and a bit of spotting but not lately.

My wedding is next Sunday and I would hate to be on my period for the big day! When would you say I should expect my period? If I continue taking the pill through rather than taking the week off like it suggests, will that allow me to skip a period?
