Friend is mad at me

So my friend has a 6 year old (she will be 7 in 4 months) and whenever she does some thing wrong or whatever and my friend tries to disciple her in anyway the father will say "but she's just a baby she didn't know what she was doing." My friend then can't put her in time out or talk to her seriously or her husband gets upset. I made a comment yesterday that an almost 7 year old shouldn't always be called "the baby" because she needs to feel like a big girl who makes big girl decisions. My friend thinks I was giving her parental advice and is now mad for saying anything. I know I shouldn't have stuck my nose in it but I just wanted to help. Opinions?
