Do you prefer to have a woman doctor or a male doctor?

I had my first appointment on Tuesday and I didn't know of my doctor was gonna be a male or female. As soon as I got in the room of course I had a male! At first I was like oh no this is not gonna work, but he ended up being really nice and a great doctor. He made me feel really comfortable and talked me thru everything he was doing throughout my exam. I know some people would prefer to have a woman doctor, but I actually love my male doctor! Just wanting to know what everyone else thinks.

I've always preferred male doctors over female especially with obgyn because they seem to be more gentle. And more understanding.

I'm not too picky. My first son was delivered by a midwife, and she was the least caring person I've ever met. My second son was supposed to be delivered by a female OB but when he came early, I had to transfer to a high risk hospital and delivered with a male doctor. He was amazing. So caring, concerned about my well being, and incredibly up to date with research. This time I've gone back to an all female practice, but I'm also seeing a male high risk doctor. I think male doctors actually tend to be more caring because they've never been in labor. Some female OBs get really hard on you if they've had kids and think you're exaggerating labor pain.

I've always preferred a female because when trying to explain things, I just feel as female doctor can better understand and relate. Where as, for example, a male doctor could never go through enough schooling or read enough books to ever understand how period cramps feel.

How do you not know who your doc is? I chose mine after much research.

I don't think it matter a whole lot. I really just like to have a referral from someone I trust who's used the dr. But I do prefer a female, just because no matter how good a guy is he's never been through it himself. I think that adds a level of comfort to me.

I have a male Dr and absolutely love him he jokes around with me and makes me feel comfortable. There are several Dr in that practice and with my first pregnancy he was my Dr but when it came to delivery day he was out of town so a woman delivered my son and I absolutely loved her so honestly if they are a good Dr and know what they are doing I dont care if they are male or female

I don't think gender has anything to do with it honestly. My first pelvic exam was with my general practitioner who was female. She was awkward and very uncomfortable to work with. Then I went to a male doctor (who was my mom's ob and delivered me and my sister) and he left the door open during a pelvic exam, took a phone call, and left me stranded on a table with the door WIDE open while I watched people go past. Oh, and at 17 (with no parent present) he told me that I couldn't have children because of endometriosis. 
Then I switched to my (current) obgyn and he has been good through everything so far. I've only gone a few times, but after my last doctor telling me I couldn't have kids he was the one who reassured me that he had seen plenty of women with endometriosis that had gotten pregnant. 
We got pregnant (by surprise actually) but I am apparently very fertile hahaha (it was one time that we "slipped" up and got pregnant.) But we couldn't be happier :)

I had the worst female OB ever, I transferred to a new location and got a male OB (for my first child )and now I'm pregnant with my 2nd and I went back to him, he's very caring! I just think females are stuck up and judge you, in my opinion.
