Nuccal translucency question

Hi everyone! I am 28 with my first pregnancy. I'm 9 weeks and doc said we could have nuccal test done to test for abnormalities- which we want to do. I've seen some people also find out the gender. Insurance will cover the nuccal test but the doc's office said unless you're over 35 the gender part isn't covered. Have any of you under 35 mommas had success with insurance paying for this? I'm already required to get blood work for nuccal but if it's an extra few hundred dollars then we will pass! I just think it'd be so fun to know. What'd you do?
