Real vs false and timing!?

Okaa , I'm sorry ; but I'm a first time mom and I'm so dang confused! I dunno how to tell my contractions apart. I dunno if they are the real contractions or BH contractions. And I really dunno how to time each one. I'm 38&4 today and I really need to start keeping track , but I'm like so confused. My water hasn't broke nor have I lost my mucus plug yet. But I am dilated at 2cm , with only 10 more days to go. Can someone , anyone please help me out?

I have the app "Contraction Timer" it's a pink/nude color with a clock and a head on the top, I use that and time everything whether I think it's BH or an actual one. It has helped alot and made me realize which ones are actual contractions.

All you have to do is once you feel a contraction/BH you press "start" and then once it passes you hit "stop" and the app keeps track of them for you. Tells you the time it started, how long it lasted and also the time in between the contractions.

Download a contraction timer app. Makes it super simple. If they are consistent it might be real labor, if they get to five minutes apart, a minute long, for at least an hour call your Labor and Delivery

I really think that Braxton hicks do not hurt at all. Contractions are pretty painful

One of the easiest to remember differences between Braxton Hicks and labor contractions it's that BH contractions will dissipate if you change positions and/or move around. Labor contractions will not. There is also a difference on where you feel them, but I can't remember which is which and I don't want to give you false info.

I just learned at my birthing class that the timing of contractions is done from the start of one contraction to the start of the next one. So if you have a contraction that starts and lasts a minute, with four minutes between the end of that one to the start of your next one, this means that your contractions are five minutes apart. Our hospital uses the 5-1-1 rule of thumb, which means that your contractions are five minutes apart, with each contraction lasting 1 minute within that five minutes and this timing has been happening for 1 hour. This is the point where they tell you to come into the hospital.  Hope that helps.
