Midwife AND OB?

Question

I'm currently seeing a couple midwives at a birthing center, but my mom is worried and thinks I should find an OBGYN as well for back up/medical emergencies. Has anyone else had both? I feel like if I had both they would both tell me not to listen to the other person and not like that I'm working with the other person too. I'm only 9 weeks, and I've been healthy so far, but I know midwives can't offer the same things Drs can if I get sick or something happens.

In the UK it's all midwives unless there's a problem that needs a doctor 
They're very capable and know what they're doing. Think of them like being pregnancy specialists.

The office I go to has both OBs and midwives it just depended who was on call when I went into labor. It happened to be one of the OBs and she was so encouraging of my choice to give birth naturally I was so happy she was the one there with me!

My midwives have me sign up at the nearest hospital, where I would transfer in case something goes wrong. Everything is already set well in advance. I figured this was standard procedure for birthing centers.....

You don't need both. And your insurance probably wouldn't be too happy about paying for both. Most pregnancies can be handled perfectly well by a midwife, and if for some reason they needed an OB, they'd call one.

I am actually seeing both at the moment. They work out of the same practice. My midwife sees me for routine things and the doctor just handles my blood pressure. 
I have two apointments a week! 
I recommend looking for a practice with doctors as well as midwives.
