Prenatal massage-should I be annoyed?

Question

So I had a prenatal massage today. Spent the money at 38 weeks mainly hoping it would relieve the knots in my shoulders which I swear are so big and tense they could grow minds of their own.

I assumed that being prenatal the masseuse would go light etc. so I told her more pressure. At least twice cause I'm not exaggerating when I say every handshake I've ever had was more pressure than this massage.

Is there a rule or something about pressure and prenatal massages ? Should I be this irritated?

Same thing happened to me! Went to massage envy and paid for a 1.5hr massage. I kept telling the lady "you can press harder" "more pressure please" and she barely touched me. I was so pissed!!! I spent $85 for a full body massage and all I got was oil rubbed on my skin with weak ass hands. THEN she had the audacity to suggest I come in weekly for massages and tried to sign me up for a membership.!!! No thank you! I can rub lotion on my own skin and for that matter my 6 year old loves to rub lotion and if I asked her she would do it for me happily. She calls it body paint :) I get that massage places have rules but how is barely touching me going to relieve any stress/tension ???

Don't be annoyed.  You'll just stress yourself out and raise your blood pressure.
If you get another massage either ho somewhere different or just politely say can you be a little more firmer this time.

The exact same thing happened to me! I assured my lady repeatedly that she could hit me with a hammer and not hurt me and I feel like she basically just pet me for an hour... Such a huge waste =[

If a massage therapist is too timid to actually apply pressure because you're pregnant maybe they shouldn't be the ones doing the prenatal massages...

I would be pissed. I have had 4 this pregnancy and they always hook it up on the pressure. Working out the knots really good. Sorry you got a bad one.

What the difference between a regular massage and prenatal massage ?

I used to be certified in prenatal massage and the the only real guideline on pressure I would follow is go as deep as the client can handle, and maybe take it one notch back because you can handle the pressure but might feel sore the next day or so. It can also alter your blood pressure a bit, but other than that the depth of the massage won't harm the baby or mom as long as mom was comfortable during it.

Maybe she was afraid to hit a trigger point. But either way you should have got what you paid for! :)

I had one as well and hated it. It hurt and I left more sore than I went in.
