Do you think violent video games have a negative effect on children/teens?

This is like intense mood changes and potentially hurting someone type of thing. I read a story today about violent video games and if they truly effect people in a bad way.

I say depends on your influence on your child via parenting. My mom has always taught my younger brothers when they little . The stuff you see on tv isn't real so don't take yo behind out there doing that foolishness cause three things might happen too you 1. You'll end up in jail 2. You'll end up dead 3 or I'm going to find out and whoop yo ass lol now there 20 and 18 and have never been a fight or any type of trouble with the law

HAHAHA!! I've been playing violent video games since...aw hell, I dunno! Whenever GTA III came out, I guess. Although I guess it depends what your violence tolerance is, Ive also played Buffy and spyron, probably when they were fairly new. I wouldn't say it affected me at all.

I said depends because it really does depend on the child. You can't just say that every child wouldn't be effected by watching violence because that's just not true. Some kids might just realize it's a game but others might not.

The only ones who should be blamed when a child becomes violent are his parents, not inanimate objects.

If your child believes in Santa Claus then he/she shouldn't play violent video games...obviously their view on reality is not yet developed. :)

I don't think violence (in movies, games, video games, whatever) is good for anyone. Especially since it tends to depict really unhealthy relationships and ways of dealing with problems.

Children should not be playing or seeing violent things, period. And they should be taught that violence isn't OK, including getting in a fight at school.

If as a teenager (16+) they decide they want a violent game or movie, then I think its their choice. By then they should have a solid understanding that violence in real-life isn't acceptable.

I think they can, depending on the person.  My husband plays Call of Duty and it doesn't effect him, but I've heard some of the people on Xbox live acting completely ridiculous over the games... So I think in some people, video games are videos games, in others they effect their emotions and moods to an unhealthy point.

Myself and my younger brothers both played violent games but always drew the distinction that what happened in games did not happen in real life.
In fact, I'm a SOCO (scene of crime officer), my next younger brother is a solicitor and my youngest brother is training to be a barrister.

Playing violent video games won't necessarily make you a violent person. However, it does desensitize kids, especially if they play them for hours at a time every single day.
