Can someone please explain the cover line?

What does this line mean and how is it helpful? Are you supposed to be watching to make sure your temp stays above the cover line after ovulation or is it totally meaningless (as I've read in some places)?

The coverline appears once ovulation is confirmed through temping. Ovulation is confirmed once you have three days of temps that are at least .2-.4 degrees higher than the six days prior to ovulation. The coverline is two tenths above the highest temperature you had in those six days. The point of the coverline is that it is a guide to the temps you should be having during the luteal (post-ovulation) phase. Your temps should be above the coverline, although you can have a day that's lower than the coverline sometimes during implantation. Keep in mind that just because your temps are above the coverline it doesn't necessarily mean that you are pregnant. Hope that makes sense!
