STD Testing

How long after unprotected sex can I wait before I go in to get tested for STDs? And are there risks to waiting. My regular Dr can't see me for a month and I don't really want to see someone else. I have no symptoms and I know I'm not pregnant, but I also know this guy has been with a significant number of women.
