Are humans naturally monogamous?

I don't think so. If we were I would say we'd see fewer instances of swinging, poly relationships, multiple sex partners, and cheating.

I believe that some are and some aren't this is how we work as a race of animals. If you even look at other animals some mate for life and others don't.

Looking from a  genetical perspective into human reproduction, no, we are not so great at monogamous relationships. Men's  DNA during gestation has very little to do with the child's develop. Instead, his DNA makes the child grab as much nutrition from its human host as possible. His DNA hardly plays a major role again until the development of human reproductive organs/puberty(If male.)

This happens because women and men aren't great at being exclusive, so the male, having no assurances if he'll reproduce with this women again, seeks to provide the best leap forward in life for all sired offspring.

At birth, the father instinctively seeks to find any of his traits in the newborn in hopes of establishing a framework to know that they are truly related. This is great for the female, back before you could test blood to determine this, because having the father raise a child, whether or not it was actually his, cut down on the energy expense needed to raise the child.

So, genetically we tend to not be in favor. However, it truly depends on the individual and culture to determine their sexual status.

I would say as the human race gets lazier we become more monogamous.

I know marriage is hard blah blah blah.

But finding someone to date and fall in love with and marry. That's time consuming people in general don't want to do that over and over again.

I think eventually with the help of technology there might be a time where we start to see a rise in marriages lasting. People will have a computer arrange their marriages and if we let technology brainwash us as much as it does now I'm sure we will eventually come to believe this is the only person for me based on a 99% match rate etc.

This is all a theory but I think our tendency to take the easy way out might eventually turn on us.

I think it is a learned thing but honestly I don't think I could ever share myself or my husband with anyone else. I love being monogamous. A lot of men though (or so I've heard) believe that humans are not meant to be monogamous. I'm so glad not all men are like that!

I believe it's mostly something that's learned. If it wasn't a societal construct then I don't think nearly as many people would be monogamous.

Even if this world didn't know monogamy I would be monogamous. It's just how I feel...
